EDM Machining

At EFJ Engineering, we offer a full range of EDM machining processes. These include wire-cut, sinker and hole drilling EDM services. EDM machining allows for incredible accuracy to be achieved in a wide range of conductive materials. This allows EFJ to offer micromachining of components which can not be produce through conventional machining processes.

Wire-cut EDM

This process uses a 0.25mm diameter wire to accurately cut metals to achieve extremely tight tolerances (+/-0.01 mm). Wire EDM is needed to create very complex parts in difficult materials such as hardened steels or even carbide.

We can cut materials ranging from 1mm to 220mm in thickness and can achieve very low Ra surface finishes.  As there are no cutting forces involved with wire-cut EDM, we can produce delicate components with thin wall sections when required.

Sinker EDM

EDM uses discharging pulses of electrical energy to erode metals or anything electrically conductive into desired shapes and features. Sinker EDM machining works by lowering an electrode into a workpiece and the profile of the electrode is eroded into the workpiece, allowing for intricate components to be produced where conventional machining methods wouldn’t be suitable.

EDM Hole Drilling

EDM Hole drilling allows for incredibly small holes to be drilled into hardened conductive materials. This process uses brass and copper electrodes from 0.5 to 3 mm in size and can drill up to 200mm deep.
